Hod's Message: Our Civil Engineering department is vibrant due to our dynamic academic and technical staff members, as well as our bright students. Our staff members come from highly-reputable universities, with specialized knowledge that runs the gamut of Civil Engineering, ranging from geotechnical engineering, to structures and construction management, to water and environmental engineering.

GTBKIET Civil Engineering students are a lively bunch, bolstered by the GTBKIET Civil Society (GCS) which plays a major role in our department, supporting us in our annual activities such as Civil Camp and Civil Week. The atmosphere created by GCS and our department has fostered close ties among students, and our students’ participation in our activities, as well as student – staff contact, are exceptional.

GTBKIET bachelor of Civil Engineering course is a good balance of theoretical background and practical experience throughout the four years of study. Students are equipped with the practical skills necessary to begin working effectively as a graduate engineer immediately after completion.. We ensure that our graduates have the understanding necessary to maintain their skills and competencies throughout their professional career.

Environment laboratory

The mission of the Environment Laboratory is to catalyze communities and NGOs to fight polluters across the country by supporting them with scientific proof and documentation of pollution and its health impacts. It is a research and development laboratory that determines pesticide residues, conducts water quality analysis and ambient air monitoring. It widely disseminates information resulting from these scientific analyses, raising greater public awareness about pollution and its health impacts. Lab services include analysis over a wide range of parameters for water, soil, air, and other environmental analysis Our Environmental Engineering lab is well stocked with the cutting edge tools and equipment needed to give our students the edge they need. Strength of materials laboratory

In strength of materials laboratory, students have opportunity to apply loads to various materials under different equilibrium conditions. Students perform tests on materials in tension, torsion and bending. These conditions and/or constraints are designed to emphasize classroom theory by having the students perform required tests, analyze subsequent data, and present the results as a report. The machines and equipments used to determine experimental data include universal testing machine, hardness testing machine, impact testing machine, muffle furnace and torsion equipment. This laboratory also offers facilities for testing building materials for their strength, behavior and suitability for various applications.


To supplement the theoretical knowledge gained in Mechanics of Solids by practical testing for determining the strength of materials under externally applied loads. To enable the student to have a clear understanding of the design for strength and stiffness of materials.

Concrete Technology laboratory's

This lab is proposed for preparing the students to apply their skills in the field/site or in the office concerned with Plain Cement Concrete or Reinforced concrete Specific Gravity of cement, Standard Consistency, Initial and Final Setting Times of Cement, Soundness of Cement, Compressive Strength of Cement, Compressive Strength of Bricks/Tiles, Fineness Modulus of Fine and Coarse Aggregates, Bulk Density, Water Absorption and Sp. Gr. of Fine and Coarse Aggregates, Slump, Compaction Factor and Vee-Bee Time of Concrete, Mix Design of Concrete, Compressive Strength of Concrete by Cube and Cylinder, Tensile and Flexural tests of Concrete, Compressive Strength of hardened Concrete by Non-Destructive Test.

Structure Analysis laboratory

Aim:- This lab is used to analyses the structure from which determinacy and indeterminacy of a structure is determined.

Apparatus:- • Clark-Maxwell's & Betti’s reciprocal theorem apparatus, • Portal Frame Apparatus, • three-hinged arch, • two-hinged arch, • Elastic properties of deflected beam apparatus, • elastic coupled beam apparatus, • deflection of curved beams, • bending moment & shear force apparatus, • shear center apparatus, • unsymmetrical bending apparatus, • pin-jointed truss apparatus, • behavior of columns and struts with different end conditions.

Surveying laboratory

Aim:- Surveying is the art of determining relative positions of objects on the surface of earth by taking measurements in the horizontal & vertical plane. The main objective of surveying is to obtain a map or a plan of area surveyed . The success of any engineering project is based upon the accurate & complete survey work. The survey lab is fully equipped with all the major & modern equipments used for modern surveying techniques. The major instruments like auto level, dumpy level, theodolite, prismatic compass, plane table, tangent clinometers, ghat tracer, telescopic alidade, survey scales etc. are used by the students for both plane & geodetic surveying.

Geotechnical Engineering laboratory

In geotechnical engineering lab experiments related to soil investigation to determine the various index or engineering properties of soil are performed.

Transportation Engineering laboratory

Aim:- In transportation engineering lab, the experiments/tests are perfomed on the samples or specimens of Sub-grade Soil, Aggregates and Bituminous Materials to ensure their quality. Following are the various equipments/apparatus to be used for the above said purpose:

Apparatus:- • Los angles abrasion testing machine, • Flakiness & Elongation testing apparatus, • Impact testing machine, • Tensile testing machine.

CASD Laboratory

This lab enhance the knowledge of students related to labs and design as well as manufacturing technologies with help of latest softwares.
